Sunlands Primary
Grade R Campus

This concept proposal for a Gr. R campus for Sunlands primary was a wonderful opportunity to create space for learning. We believe that children should learn about their environment through experiencial play.

An important element of this design was the roofs to collect rainwater, to be harvested into water play channels. This empowers children and teaches them about water conservation, seasons, develops motor skills and other skills. This was the approach for all design decisions.

Other unique design elements are th placement of windows on a childs level, materials and tectures, and primary colours overlapping to form secondary colours.

The structural method is to use light steel frame structure with insulated walls. This reduces the programme on site, is cost effective, creates design flexibility and is environmentally friendly.
